Research Interests

My research focuses on evaluating the phenotypic, molecular, and behavioral effects induced by emerging contaminants during the developmental stages of two evolutionarily distant marine organisms: the tunicate Ciona robusta and the bivalve mollusk Mytilus galloprovincialis. Pharmaceutical active compounds (PhACs) and engineered nanomaterials (ENMs) represent two major classes of emerging contaminants that are increasingly reaching marine ecosystems and raising urgent ecotoxicological concerns. Through an integrated approach, I analyze alterations in phenotypic parameters, assess molecular responses, and investigate potential behavioral changes induced by contaminant exposure. The objective is to generate scientific data that contribute to the ecotoxicological risk assessment of these emerging contaminants, while also providing tools applicable to the development of effective environmental monitoring and prevention strategies.
