Research Interests
My field of research is marine ecotoxicology, in particular the study of the toxic effects of anthropogenic pollutants on marine organisms, both in vivo and in vitro.
During my PhD I focused on the study of the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of phthalates on the European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and the bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) cell lines using specific tests for the evaluation of cell viability, cell death and DNA damage after exposure to the phthalates.
Subsequently, I focused on in vivo ecotoxicity techniques, in particular the "Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity test" (OECD n. 236, 2013) on zebrafish, for the evaluation of the ecotoxic potential of water courses located in highly anthropized coastal areas.
I am currently collaborating as a research fellow at the Calabria Marine Centre on a project aimed at studying biodiversity and the biological and ecological aspects of deep-sea organisms, focusing on the risks to which these species are subjected due to the potential ingestion of microplastics.
