Research Interest

My research activity is focused on aspects of organismal biology with the adoption of a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate the effects of human impacts and climate change on fisheries resources and marine ecosystems. I have a particular interest in the impact of microplastics on the biology and physiology of fish and cephalopods; study that I address through the analysis of behavioral responses and feeding habits as well as morphological analyzes of organs and tissues. Through observations in nature and satellite systems, genetic analysis and stomach contents, I study the behavior of migratory fish species (swordfish, garfish, tuna). In recent years I have coordinated projects and research activities aimed at studying marine ecosystems of hydrothermal environments, with a specific focus on species adaptations to the effects of acidification. I am principal investigator of several projects founded by the PON, PO FEAMP 2014-2020 Programmes, Interreg MED and of orders for preparatory studies for the implementation of offshore wind farms.
