Curriculum Vitae

Supervisor: Prof. Antonio Terlizzi, Dott. Paolo D’Ambrosio
Appointed on project: CORe CALABRIA

Research Interests

The CORe CALABRIA (CRIMAC) project aims to improve the knowledge of the SAC "Secca di Amendolara" (IT9310053), through the production of georeferenced mapping of coralligenous formations; assessment of the ecological status characterizing the habitat (identification and assessment of the abundance of structuring species, presence of associated habitats and species of conservation interest, assessment of possible state of necrosis and/or percentage of epibiosis of individuals); identification and estimation of the main anthropogenic pressures threatening coralligenous formations (presence of fishing gear damaging the coralligenous, presence and characterization of marine litter) and identification of future strategies for the management of these areas through the drafting of conservation measures that combine ecological and socio-economic outcomes. The ultimate goal of the project is to build quantitative information for the coralligenous habitat from the perspective of biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of marine ecosystems. All of these marine exploration activities contemplate the use of acoustic instrumentation such as Side Scan Sonar and Multibeam Echosounder for habitat mapping and identification of geomorphological structures, the use of geospatial software (GIS) for the production of spatially explicit cartography, and the use of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) equipped with cameras and other sensors for exploration and sample collection. Along with these activities, I have also developed a photogrammetric approach to the 3D reconstruction of priority marine habitats such as underwater caves, Posidonia oceanica seagrass beds, and coralligenous habitats. I am also involved in mapping and multi-criteria analysis of coastal areas using drones and satellite data.
