Research interests

The genome base composition (Guanine+Cytosine molar ratio, GC%), is an highly variable parameter among species. The issue of what kind of forces drive this wide range of variability are actually debated. The goal of the Ph.D. Thesis is to test the different hypotheses proposed through the years, and in particular to challenge the so called Metabolic Rate Hypothesis, based on the observation that metabolic rate adaptations drives the evolution of the genomic DNA base composition.
