Supervisor: Dr Raffaella Casotti
Appointed on project: EMBRC
Period: from 01/08/2016 to 31/07/2017

Research interests

My research interest is microbial ecology, with a focus on the abundance and distribution of autotrophic and heterotrophic picoplankton, and community composition and metabolic activity of heterotrophic bacteria and their role in the marine ecosystem. To analyse the planktonic community distribution in the coastal areas of the Gulf of Naples I use flow cytometry and in particular I analyse sea water samples to enumerate them and, based on the optical characteristics of scatter and fluorescence of cells it is possible to identify different subpopulation and/or physiological adaptations to light or nutrient.
