Historical Archives
The Historical Archive [ASZN] is an administrative facility where documents related to the activity of the SZN from its foundation until 40 years ago are stored, safeguarded and prepared for consultation. The correspondence with authorities, institutions, scientists and artists documents the scientific, cultural and administrative history of the SZN.
The archives also hold important collections of photographs and scientific drawings (about 1.500 items). Donations of items and collections related to the history and activity of the SZN constantly enrich the ASZN such as, the Antonietta Dohrn Donation (2006) of books, albums, photographs, works of art, correspondence and artefacts. Online access to the holdings is under construction. Working facilities are available for 2 researchers at any time.

History of Science Unit
Individual research projects mainly concern aspects of the history of the SZN as an international research facility, e.g., the interaction among its patrons, investigation of the processes of life at different times, improvement of research methods. Recent joint projects include a book on more than 160 Russian scientists who have worked at the SZN between 1874 and 1934, as well as the proceedings of a workshop on Hans von Marées dealing with the interaction of science and the arts. Small exhibits, prepared by HSU staff, continue to present persons and events from the past to SZN collaborators. HSU encourages the collaboration with other SZN research groups and facilities, e.g., data retrieval from past records for present research or promoting a network of related databases.
Staff members are constantly collaborating in organizing meetings, events of scientific communication and public relations; they also dedicate much of their time to processing requests for information by patrons and staff members.
